What does the government have the power to do when someone threatens the social order? What should it do?
In the American democratic system, the people make the laws through their elected representatives. But what happens when someone violates a law that was enacted to benefit society at large? Although the powers of federal and state government are limited in scope by the Constitution, there are certain measures that the legislature can take to prevent and punish violations of the law. This panel brings together members of the legislative branch, law enforcement community, and mental health lobby to discuss potential response strategies for when violent behavior tears at the American social fabric.
