Applied Music Instructor for Violin and Viola
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the department chair, the instructor is responsible for individual or group music lessons with all levels of students from beginning levels to those with considerable prior experience. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individual or group instruction, meeting for one hour or one-half hour per week, offering 12 lessons per student per semester.
- Evaluate students’ abilities and progress, including juries for music majors or minors, and submit all final grades.
- Regularly report lesson progress to the chair or relevant ensemble director.
- Help students in their studio prepare for recitals as needed.
- Schedule lessons with students in collaboration with the Department of Music assistant.
- Creatively explore additional ways to be involved in the department with the chair, including workshops, personal creative projects, faculty recital opportunities, etc.
- Aid the department of music in recruiting efforts to bring new students to Lake Forest College and the Department of Music.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Master’s degree in Music (or relevant sub-discipline of music), or an equivalent combination of education, certification, experience, and/or prior teaching.
- Formal teaching experience teaching violin and viola at the collegiate level preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a studio preferred.
- More than five years of experience as a professional musician preferred.
