Faculty Panel: How to Become a Medical Nihilist During a Pandemic
4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Join us for the Current Topics in Healthcare Series Faculty Panel brought to you by the Ethics Center with Lake Forest College Faculty and Dr. Jacob Stegenga of The University of Cambridge.
Dr. Jacob Stegenga is joined by Dr. Jennifer Ball of Temple University, Lake Forest College's Dr. Jean-Marie Maddux of Psychology, and Dr. DeJuran Richardson of Mathematics for a Faculty Panel Discussion on Medical Nihilism. Medical Nihilism is the view that our confidence in the effectiveness of medical interventions ought to be low. An upshot is what Dr. Stegenga calls gentle medicine, which holds that clinical practice should be less aggressive and that regulatory standards should be strengthened. Jacob Stegenga is a Reader in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge. He has published widely on fundamental topics in reasoning and rationality and philosophical problems in medicine and biology.
