What is one thing you are most proud of professionally?
What I'm most proud of professionally in my career at this point is that I started working as a nurse in the middle of a global pandemic, which has been pretty crazy. However, it's very rewarding being able to help people out where they're at, especially when they're in such a vulnerable place.
What is one of the college courses that you took that have helped you in your professional career?
The college courses that I took at Lake Forest College that have helped me the most in my professional career were the advanced biology courses because we had to read quite a few journal articles and scientific research papers, and that taught me how to interpret research and how to conduct research. English classes were also very helpful as they taught me to become a better writer.
What was one of your most meaningful experiences at Lake Forest?
My most meaningful experience at Lake Forest College was the opportunity to study abroad, which I did in Senegal, as a double major in biology and French, while also on the pre-health track. I thought it was awesome that I found a program where I could improve my French and also do an internship in healthcare. I ended up living with two different host families, and I absolutely loved my experience. I would go back there in a heartbeat if I could.
When you look back on your time at Lake Forest, what is one of the best lessons you learned that you've carried with you?
One of the main lessons that I learned at Lake Forest College that I still carry with me is just to learn to enjoy where you are. At Lake Forest, that would be learning to enjoy the people that are around you. There's such a wealth and diversity of people at Lake Forest, and there's so much to learn from them. Also just enjoying being so close to Chicago. Chicago has so many different opportunities, including internships. It's such a fun city, especially in the summer.
What skills did you work on while at Lake Forest that have helped you be successful today?
Some of the skills that I acquired at Lake Forest College that have helped me the most in my professional life are time management, networking, teamwork, and just figuring out a way to balance work and life.
