What made you choose Lake Forest College?
I chose Lake Forest College for the wonderful community I experienced when I visited Campus and the growing Science and Pre-Health programming. I knew I didn’t want to be “just a number” at any college. At Lake Forest, I could tell from the first visit that the professors would truly care about my growth. I saw many opportunities for involvement with great support along the way, which was incredibly important to me. How did a Liberal Arts education make a difference for you?
The liberal arts education challenged me to become a well-rounded person in both thought and in tangible skillsets. I was able to explore many areas that interested me before diving into what I was most passionate about. This helped me to think broadly and holistically, which ultimately made me someone who thinks a lot about overall strategy and how different parts come together to make a whole.
What experiences outside of the classroom do you think helped prepare you for graduate studies in Human Resource Management?
I was involved in many things outside of the classroom, including being a student athlete, leader within Greek Life, New Student Orientation Coordinator, and student ambassador. Balancing all these priorities with schoolwork taught me a lot about time management, which is incredibly important still today as I balance working full time with graduate studies.
Specifically, my role as president of my sorority gave me a lot of tangible skills in team management within a broader organization. This has helped me in my graduate education in Human Resource Management.
How did your time at Lake Forest College help you prepare to apply to graduate school and your first job?
At Lake Forest College, I was always challenged to aim for the next level and believe that I could achieve it. Professors were always my biggest support system when I needed to talk through what my career would look like or what next steps to take. My time at Lake Forest taught me that I can achieve my goals and do so successfully. This gave me a lot of confidence when applying to graduate school and my first job.
What do you think of the new Health Professions Program between Lake Forest College and Rosalind Franklin University?
I am incredibly impressed about this new Health Professions Program. Both Lake Forest College and Rosalind Franklin University are excellent institutions with a lot to offer. I know the College has been connected to Rosalind Franklin in several ways over the years, and this new program signals the College’s commitment to placing students in top research and medical programs. I’m excited to hear about what students think of it and learn more about the many opportunities available.
What skills and experiences at Lake Forest College do you believe will help you be successful?
Time management was something I learned a lot about at Lake Forest College. I believe this will help me be successful in anything I do, as it gives me the ability to pursue all my interests while still allowing myself time to be successful with each of them. My experiences working with driven peers and incredible professors and staff have taught me diverse ways of thinking and problem-solving, which I have already seen benefit my career.
What advice would you give a high school student looking to pursue pre-health and is considering Lake Forest College?
I would advise anyone considering Lake Forest College for pre-health to investigate everything available to students in terms of opportunities, knowledge, and support. Faculty and staff truly have the best interest of the student in mind and will always be there to help you make informed decisions about your future. Alumni are incredibly willing to connect with you and play a part in your journey as well.
