Heartland Alliance Field Trip inspires Humanities Final Projects
Heartland Alliance visit inspires performance.
On 12 November 2019, Associate Professor of Theater Chloe Johnston brought students in her Introduction to Performance Studies (THTR 251) course to Heartland Harvest Commons. Students then used the information they gathered on this field trip to craft final performance projects incorporating themes of social justice, equity, and addiction.
Students toured the facility, which aids individuals transitioning from homelessness into a communal living environment. They also interviewed seven Heartland staff members. During this session, the staff discussed how their values and life experience had inspired them to work for a mission-driven organization. They also explored the issues affecting Chicago’s homeless population and discussed social justice issues in the Chicagoland area.
