A message from President Stephen D. Schutt
Lake Forest College is successfully combining a proud academic tradition with innovative, effective career preparation. This is a special combination in today’s competitive marketplace that has been strongly endorsed by our trustees and faculty, who unanimously added this sentence to our mission statement: “We prepare our students for, and help them attain, productive and rewarding careers.” Thanks to this commitment, 94% of our graduates are employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation, and two donors just pledged $2 million to expand our career services.
We have carefully grown our student body from 1250 to 1600, and we plan to grow to 1800. We are proud of the fact we have one of the most diverse student bodies in the Midwest. Domestic students of color and international students made up 40% of the first-year class we enrolled last fall. In four years students have an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the world from each other on our campus. And the campus itself is truly glorious. Combined with nearby Chicago — and everything that destination city has to offer — we really have “the best of both worlds.”
Thanks to these advantages, we’ve been very successful in raising funds to support the College. In two campaigns since the year 2000 we have raised $175 million, and we are now preparing a third campaign to raise another $125 million, as part of our most recent comprehensive strategic plan. A centerpiece of this next effort will be a new $40 million science facility scheduled to open in the fall of 2017.
I invite you to look around our website, or better yet, come for a visit. I think you’ll find Lake Forest an exciting, vibrant place with a bright future.
