Since immigrating to the US in 1989, Dajani has taught and tutored mathematics to high school students to improve their Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and American College Test (ACT) scores while encouraging her female students to participate in STEM, focus on education, develop positive social skills, and become active in their community.

“My devotion to improving the status of women crystalized my participation in women activities, advocating for women empowerment, sharing with newcomers my experience and the challenges I faced, and how I overcame those challenges,” Dajani said. “My focus on the improvement of status of women assisted many in finding a place and a role in their community service and improving their own status in society.”

In academia, Dajani established the Arabic Language program at Harper College. “I taught my students Arabic language, art, music, history, culture, and food with the goal of creating a better dialogue and understanding between people of different backgrounds,” she said. She also taught mathematics at several colleges and universities.

In May 2021, Dajani was recognized by the Arab American Women Association as a Highly Qualified Arab Academic Woman Professor for her leadership role in improving the status of women in her community. She was also featured in Professor Jennifer Hereth’s book, An Artist Responds to Political Injustice, who wrote about “the freedom of wearing a hijab while teaching,” Dajani said.

In December, Lady of Earth Foundation recognized Dajani’s contributions by planting an olive tree on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem and bestowing on her a certificate and an olive wood trophy. The ceremony was broadcast live on TV.

“I am deeply grateful to Lady of Earth Foundation for this great accolade and for bringing to focus the importance of leadership in community service,” Dajani said.
