Guest registration

In order to host a guest in your room, your guest needs to first register themselves with the College. They can do so by filling in their information, including their vehicle information, on this form. Once registered, you will be able to search them in the Housing Portal and create a virtual Residence Life Guest Pass for them. All guests must be registered and have an active virtual Residence Life Guest Pass.

Steps to Create a Virtual Residence Life Guest Pass

  1. Your guest registers themselves with the College using the Visitor Registration Portal.
    1. Any guest parking a car on campus must input their vehicle information here. Once your guest completes their registration, they will be prompted to verify their registration by clicking a link sent to their email.
    2. Once they confirm their registration, you’ll be able to search for them in our Housing Portal! Please note that your guests mobile phone number will be their main identifier.
  2. You create a virtual Residence Life Guest Pass. Log on to the Housing Portal select Residence Life Guest Pass.
    1. From this new menu, you’ll be able to see all active, upcoming, and expired passes. To create a new pass, select that option and then search for your guest by their phone number.
    2. Once found, select whether this guest needs a day or overnight pass, adjust the dates to match your guest’s arrival and departure; leave the default times as they are. Review and agree to the visitor policy information and then select Create Visitor Pass.
    3. Your guest will receive a text message at the number they’ve entered confirming that their guest pass has been created.

As you consider hosting guests this academic year, please remember:

  • Guests may only be hosted up to 72 hours per month (or 3 overnights)
  • All roommates must consent for a guest to stay in the room
  • You are responsible for the behavior of your guest and may be held responsible if your guest violates any College policy
  • Residence Life staff, including Residence Directors and Resident Assistants, and Public Safety Officers may ask to see your guest’s virtual Residence Life Guest Pass at any point during your guest’s visit to verify their identity

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my guest doesn’t receive an email confirmation link or the link doesn’t work?

Please check your email’s spam/junk folder as the automated message may have accidentally been screened. If your guest receives their link and it doesn’t work, you may email reslife@lakeforest.edu and we will work with your guest to ensure they’re registered appropriately.

What time do I need to have my guest registered by?

Your guest can register themselves at any time with the College by following this linkand completing the registration form. Remember that guests must confirm their registration once their form is submitted. We ask that your virtual Residence Life Guest Pass be created at least 24 hours in advance of the visit.

Do I have to register my guest if they don’t have a car?

Yes. It’s important for campus safety and security that all guests are registered with the College.

What happens if I don’t register my guest?

If you host a guest without registering them, you may be referred through the College’s conduct process.

Does this mean I can’t host someone more than three times a month?

You may only host guests up to 72 hours a month, which is three overnight visits per month. You may host more than one guest at a time; please be mindful of your room’s capacity. For a full explanation of our guest policy, please review the Student Handbook online at www.lakeforest.edu.

Are other Lake Forest College students considered guests?

While other residential students do not need to be registered as a guest, you should always have the consent of your roommate before inviting someone else to the room. Commuting Lake Forest College students are considered guests to the residence halls and should be registered as outlined.

Winter and summer housing

Winter Break Housing

The residence halls close during each Winter Break between Fall and Spring semesters. Students who wish to remain on campus for any portion of the break period must complete the Winter Housing Agreement which opens in mid October, in the MyHousing portal.

The Winter Housing Agreement contains all additional policies related to Winter Housing, but several important points are highlighted here:

  • The Winter Housing period begins when the residence halls close and continues until the residence halls reopen the weekend before the Spring semester begins.
  • There is an additional housing cost for Winter Housing. The cost is $125 per week and includes two meals per day, seven days a week, in the Cafeteria. Charges are billed by the week, and cannot be prorated to the day. If a student lives on campus for one day of the week (defined Saturday through Friday) they pay for the full week.
  • Two meals per day are provided in the cost of winter housing.

Summer Housing

Summer Housing is available to most students during the summer academic terms. Students who wish to remain on campus for any or all summer terms must complete the Summer Housing Application in the MyHousing portal when it is available. The Summer Housing Application typically opens in early April.

Summer Terms

Summer Housing is available on a weekly basis. When students complete their Summer Housing Application, they will select which weeks they are requesting summer housing. For Summer 2025, the move-in and out dates are listed below. If a student checks out or moves in on a date other than the published move-in or move-out date, their student account will be prorated to charge for only the days they lived in the summer room. Please note, students must OFFICIALLY check out with an RA to be considered moved-out. Students who wish to move-in earlier than the published move-in date for the week must get permission from the Office of Residence Life, to ensure that the room is available.

  • August: There are no August classes, however, students may apply to stay on campus after the July term, until fall move-in. There is an application for this housing term and only students who have no aternative housing will be approved.
Eligibility and Priority

During the summer housing period, students are all assigned to one or two residence halls on campus. Since there is often a fixed number of available beds, summer housing assignments are prioritized in the following groups:

  1. Richter Scholars
  2. Students registered for and attending Summer Session courses in person AND are returning to Lake Forest College in the fall or completing work for graduation during the summer
  3. Students participating in a College-sponsored research on campus
  4. Students participating in a College-sponsored internship or experiential learning program for credit
  5. Students working ON CAMPUS for a minimum of 25 hours per week
  6. All other students, who can verify ongoing enrollment at the College, based on space availability

Residence Life will verify participation in courses, internships, or other programs to ensure students are prioritized correctly.

Summer Housing Costs for 2025

Summer housing will cost $132.50 per week. This does not include dining.

Summer Meal Plan Costs

Meal plan selection is optional during the Summer term. Students may select meals when they complete the Summer Housing Application, or they may decline to select mals when completing the application. If a student wants to cancel the meal plan, they must do it before the term starts.

A 14 meals per week meal plan is available each week of the summer. The cost is $130 per week. The Caf will be open and accepting meal swipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, and on weekends when camps are on campus. Students may use meal swipes at Boomer's for to-go options on the weekends.

Spring to Summer Transition

Most summer residents may not need to move out when the residence halls close at the end of Spring semester. Instead, summer residents will be scheduled to move into their summer room assignment at a date shortly before their summer term begins. On the scheduled move in day, residents will pick up their new room key and begin moving into their summer space.

August Housing

The Summer Housing period encompasses all of the academic terms - typically from mid-May to the end of July. The period between the end of Summer Housing and returning student move in in August is known as August Term Housing. The August Term Housing period is not a guaranteed part of summer housing, and is only granted via application to students who have demonstrated need to remain on campus. Residence Life typically only approves students who 1) have exhausted all other housing options and have no other options or 2) are employed by the College to perform essential duties as designated by the College.

Students should prepare to move out of the residence halls at the end of Summer Housing. August Term Housing approval is not guaranteed.
