When Estefanni Caballero ’26 transferred to Lake Forest College from the College of Lake County in Fall 2024, she had a clear goal: to get involved and take advantage of every opportunity the College offers.

Growing up in the Grayslake and Round Lake area, she opted to enrolle at a college that was close to home while also close to the city.  “I chose Lake Forest because of its small classes, diversity, opportunities and the financial support,” Caballero said.

Starting at a community college gave her a strong foundation. She was able to take advantage of transfer scholarships and financial aid, allowing her to stay focused on her education and future without the added financial burden.

“I’ve always been determined, and it’s rewarding to see the outcome of your efforts,” Caballero said.

Outside the classroom, Caballero is active in the College’s chapter of the American Marketing Association, where she has connected with students from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. As a commuter student, AMA has helped her build relationships across campus while learning from guest speakers and marketing professionals

Through the CAC, Caballero has received support throughout her past two years at Lake Forest College. During winter break, she participated in the Career Mentoring Program, where she was able to connect with two professionals who guided her through the job application process, helped her refine her resume, and shared advice on how to confidently connect with professionals. The experience also taught her how to ask the right questions, build meaningful professional relationships, and navigate career opportunities with more clarity and confidence.

As a business major with a concentration in marketing and a minor in digital media design, Caballero hopes to pursue a career in a creative space that combines creativity with strategic and analytical thinking.

For many transfer students, studying abroad can feel difficult to achieve due to limited time and financial barriers. With the support of scholarships and her own determination, Caballero was able to study abroad in Greece. “Studying abroad taught me a different kind of independence and confidence,” she said.

As she plans her next steps, she hopes to pursue a career at an advertising agency. Her advice to new students and transfer students is “Put yourself out there and ask questions, even if it feels uncomfortable. Even if it’s not where you see yourself long-term, it can still be a valuable learning experience.”
