Richardson presents at Harvard summer symposium

Ernest H. Volwiler Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science DeJuran Richardson gave the keynote address at the 2019 Pipeline into Biostatistics symposium held at the Harvard University T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
The Pipelines into Biostatistics Annual Symposium is a highlight of Harvard’s Summer Program in Biostatistics and Computational Biology. The annual six-week summer program is designed to encourage and prepare underrepresented minority college students to pursue graduate school training in biostatistics and careers in public health. Richardson, who was a faculty member and research fellow in the Department of Biostatistics at Harvard, is a recognized expert in designing and conducting large clinical trials in the areas of cancer, HIV, stroke, and cardiopulmonary diseases.
During his talk, Richardson discussed his career trajectory while encouraging students to find their own passion, discover what drives them, and to explore non-traditional pathways in biostatistics. During a “Journeys in Biostatistics” panel, program Advisory Board members and alumni discussed their experiences with the program, the choices they’ve made in their careers, and what can be done to further promote diversity in STEM fields.
In addition to his role at Lake Forest College, Richardson is an Adjunct Professor and Senior Biostatistician within the Section of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Department of Preventive Medicine, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
