Rewiring Wonder: Graphic Novels and Interactive Art
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join us for a discussion with Özge Samanci, a media artist, graphic novelist, and associate professor at Northwestern University’s School of Communication. Professor Samanci will present selected graphic novel projects and interactive installations that use humor, technology, and participation to disrupt habitual ways of seeing and open space for reflection, empathy, and connection.
In her practice, Özge Samancı works across graphic novels and interactive media art. Her graphic novels use visual storytelling to explore the lives of marginalized characters navigating forces such as governments, corporations, social norms, and authoritarian systems. Alongside this narrative work, she creates data-driven interactive installations that invite reflection through brief, poetic encounters rather than traditional storytelling.
Many of these works explore our relationship with the natural world and question the illusion that humans are separate from it. As environmental crises intensify, their narratives risk becoming familiar and emotionally distant. Can interactive art help break through that numbness?
This event is sponsored by the HUMAN Grant.
