In a recent assessment of top economics researchers, Assistant Professor of Economics Linh Pham was recognized by IDEAS and Research Papers in Economics (RePEc) as one of the leading authors in her field.

Pham ranked in the top 10 percent of authors over the past decades, the top 10 percent of female economists, and the top 10 percent of authors overall as of August 2025 out of more than 71,900 registered authors evaluated.

Pham's research has gained recognition for her focus on reconciling economic and financial goals with environmental concerns. One focus of Pham's research has been to investigate the relationship between energy and environmental outcomes, such as energy consumption and pollution, and economic and social outcomes, such as economic growth, educational attainment, and criminal activities. Her work also analyzes the role of financial markets in promoting sustainable investments.

“The recognition motivates me to work harder and is a reminder for me to constantly learn and expand my knowledge,” Pham said. “In the future, I hope to place a greater emphasis on mentoring the next generation of researchers, helping them grow their skills and ideas.”

To do so, Pham hopes to remain involved in the College's student research initiatives, such as the Richter program, the Student Symposium, senior theses, and independent studies.

“At the same time, I want to broaden the impact of my work by engaging more with non-profit organizations and collaborators outside academia, so that research can contribute more directly to addressing real-world challenges,” she added. “Above all, I hope my research can inform better decision making, by analyzing the opportunity costs, trade-offs, intended and unintended consequences of various course of actions by a wide range of stakeholders such as firms, consumers, and policymakers.”

The rankings were compiled by IDEAS using data from RePEc. IDEAS is the largest bibliographic database in economics, indexing more than 5.1 million research items, including 4.6 million available in full text. RePEc is a volunteer-driven initiative that promotes the free dissemination of economics research, drawing bibliographic data from over 2,000 archives, including major publishers and research institutions.
