Daily Life and the Role of Music in Guinea: Talk and workshop
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join Lake Forest College for Daily Life and the Role of Music in Guinea, an evening that blends culture, rhythm, and community.
Featuring Helen Bond, director of the College’s West African drumming ensemble and Executive Director of Motherland Rhythm Community, and Fode Camara, Guinean performer and project director of Motherland Rhythm Community, this unique program invites participants into a lively dialogue—in English, French, and Susu—about music’s essential role in Guinean daily life.
The evening includes an African-style meal, followed by discussion and an interactive drumming workshop where you’ll experience the rhythms firsthand.
Free and open to the public, this event is more than a performance—it’s a chance to connect, learn, and celebrate the rich traditions of West Africa right here on campus.
