Cristina Groeger recognized for her work in education history
Assistant Professor of History Cristina Groeger was awarded a National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation postdoctoral fellowship, which supports early career scholars working in critical areas of education research.
Groeger is using her research leave to complete her book manuscript, under contract with Harvard University Press, tentatively titled, “The Education Trap: Why Schooling Can’t Solve American Inequality.”
Her book examines how expanding formal education in the modern United States, often hailed as the primary road to opportunity, became a new terrain on which inequalities were remade and legitimated.
The National Academy of Education advances high-quality research to improve education policy and practice. Founded in 1965, the Academy consists of US members and international associates who are elected on the basis of scholarship related to education.
