Why did you join Eukaryon?: To collaborate and share ideas with like-minded people interested in science.

What are you most excited for this upcoming issue?:Seeing all the new names and faces on the latest cover of Eukaryon's journal.

Fun Fact: I have played the clarinet for 13 years.

 


Shanamon (Mieng) Chandavimol 

Class Year: Junior

Major: Neuroscience; Minor: Chemistry

Executive Position: Editor Elect

Why did you join Eukaryon?: I joined Eukaryon because I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the editorial and publication process. While this might sound cliché, I believe that most of the time science needs to be communicated more effectively. Knowing science is a privilege, and we must ensure that the knowledge is accessible and accurately communicated to people around us.

What are you most excited for this upcoming issue?: As this is my first year in Eukaryon, I am really excited see how everything will turn out!

Fun Fact: I really like bacon.

Doyinsola Ogunshola

Class Year: Senior

Major(s): Neuroscience and African American Studies

Executive Position: Chair of Review Board

Why did you join Eukaryon?: Undergraduate students deserve accolades for their research. This publication not only provides that but serves as an incentive for students to pursue research in the future. It brings me joy to contribute to this phenomenon, as well as learn the ins and outs of academic publishing. The experience is simply invaluable and like no other.

What are you most excited for this upcoming issue?: The increase in the quality, diversity and interdisciplinary nature of the publications.

Fun Fact: I am a descendant of royalty.


Niousha Akbari Ghaleh Noy

Class Year: Sophomore

Major(s): Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Executive Position: Assoicate Chair of Review Board

Why did you join Eukaryon?: Communication is an overlooked aspect of sharing results in scientific research. Results are one half of the equation, but interpreting those results among peers is the other, crucial, half. I joined Eukaryon because I love seeing the research my peers are working on and learning new topics

What are you most excited about for this upcoming issue?: I’m very excited to see the papers written in both scientific fields and non-scientific fields to expand what I know on all kinds of research!

Fun Fact: I love nature and hiking!

Executive Position: Chair of Copy-Edit Board

Why did you join Eukaryon?: I joined Eukaryon because I wanted to be part of an undergraduate journal that amplifies student voices and creates a space for meaningful scientific communication. As someone deeply passionate about neuroscience research, writing, and mentorship, I was excited by the opportunity to help students share their work, strengthen their scientific writing, and contribute to a collaborative academic community. 

What are you most excited about for this upcoming issue?: I am most excited about the continued growth in both the quality and diversity of writing in this upcoming issue. It is inspiring to see students explore different areas of science, bring interdisciplinary perspectives, and develop stronger critical thinking and communication skills. I am  looking forward to showcasing innovative research and highlighting voices that represent the breadth of our academic community.

Fun Fact: I am also a content creator and have collaborated with brands such as CeraVe, Valentino Beauty, and L’Oréal Paris.

Kairo Fuller

Why did you join Eukaryon?: I joined Eukaryon because I was excited to be on a student led team producing such an outstanding and diverse life sciences research journal. I was excited by the chance to contribute to a publication that highlights student research while also developing my skills in editing, critical thinking, and scientific storytelling.

What are you most excited about for this upcoming issue?:I am most excited to highlight our student work and scholarship this year. Eukaryon would not be what it is without our amazing students and team, and we have worked so hard this year to bring an outstanding issue this year. I am excited to show what we have to offer!

Fun Fact: I play an instrument from my home country that is made out of an oil drum, it’s called the Steel Pan!

Leslie Casares

Class Year: Senior

Major: Neuroscience; Minor: Music

Executive Position: Chair of Publication Board

Why did you join Eukaryon?: I joined Eukaryon because this esteemed organization not only provides its students with professional and interpersonal skills; it is a great way for life science majors to be able to build community with one another. I love working with other people and I pride myself to build community in a multitude of ways outside of the classroom. I also joined Eukaryon because it provides students with a great way to learn how to be effective communicators of science. 

What are you most excited about for this upcoming issue?: I am excited to see the increase in engagement of authors, students, faculty and our members at the inauguration of the 22nd edition of Eukaryon.

Fun Fact: I love to listen to rock 'n roll music from the 60s-90s!

Major(s): Neuroscience and Politics; Minor: Philosophy

Executive Position: Associate Chair of Publication Board

Why did you join Eukaryon?: I joined Eukaryon to build my background in scientific writing to pursue a Ph.D. and J.D. 

What are you most excited about for this upcoming issue?:  I am very excited to read the diverse forms of writing and the different research people have done throughout the year. I am especially looking forward to the thesis projects, as I want to do a thesis. 

Fun Fact:  I used to be able to recite 100 digits of pie. P.S Don't ask me to do it now!

Sai Nikhita Gaddam

Major(s): Neuroscience; Minor(s): Chemistry and Economics

Executive Position: Business and Records Keeping Manager

Why did you join Eukaryon?: I joined Eukaryon because I wanted to be more involved in scientific writing and help highlight undergraduate research on campus. It is also a great opportunity to improve my science communication skills while being part of a collaborative academic community.

What are you most excited about for this upcoming issue?:  The diversity of perspectives and research featured! It’s exciting to see work from different disciplines and backgrounds come together to showcase the breadth of ideas within our community.

Fun Fact: I got a 11 stitches on the bottom of my foot from cannonballing into Lake Michigan!
