What made you choose Lake Forest College?

The strength of the science program and the ability to form close mentoring relationships with the faculty led me to choose Lake Forest College.

How did a liberal arts education make a difference for you?

A liberal arts education taught me to think creatively and apply that creativity to my studying and work as a physician.  The emphasis on communication also enables me to more easily communicate with and teach my patients.

What do you think of the new Health Professions Program between LFC and RFU?

I think it's a great opportunity for someone who knows they want to go into healthcare to reach their goals sooner.

What skills and experiences at Lake Forest do you believe will help you be successful?

LFC taught me how to multitask successfully and learn how much I could handle at once, a skill that was extremely useful during medical school and residency, especially during my Chief year. LFC also taught me to be a leader and gave me experience teaching (both as a peer teacher and a writing tutor) which is invaluable now that I will be teaching at a residency program.

What advice would you give a high school student who is looking to pursue pre-health and is considering Lake Forest College?

Take advantage of every opportunity a small, close-knit community like LFC has to offer.  Apply for clinical and research opportunities and utilize the school's alumni network wherever possible.  LFC gives you the opportunity to work closely with faculty, an experience that is often hard to find.
