Please join us for the 31st Ernest H. Volwiler Distinguished Scientist Lectureship with Anjan Chatterjee, MD

Beauty captivates us, providing immense pleasure while also presenting disturbing implications, particularly in relation to human faces where aesthetic and moral judgments intertwine.

This discussion will explore the automatic neural and behavioral responses to beauty, highlighting biases such as the beauty-is-good stereotype and the negative perceptions associated with facial anomalies. Additionally, it will offer insights into the interplay between biology and culture to propose strategies for mitigating the harmful effects of these stereotypes.

Public Reception to be held prior to the lecture starting at 4:30 p.m.
