Deputy Athletic Director
Lake Forest College invites applications for the position of Deputy Athletic Director within the Department of Athletics. This dynamic leadership role supports the Assistant Vice-President of Athletics in advancing the mission, values, and strategic initiatives of the department. The successful candidate will be a key member of the senior leadership team of the Department of Athletics and serve as a central coordinator for administrative operations, internal communication, and department-wide initiatives. This position has significant evening and weekend responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Administration
- Serve as a senior advisor to the Assistant Vice President of Athletics on departmental planning, policy development, and strategic initiatives.
- Oversee the daily administrative operations of the department to ensure effective communication and execution of goals.
- Facilitate alignment between athletics, student affairs, and academic leadership.
Strategic Initiatives & Special Projects
- Lead special projects and departmental initiatives including student-athlete wellness and community engagement.
- Develop leadership training cohort for student-athletes and assist with the direction of the campus Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
- Represent the Director of Athletics on internal and external committees and at events as assigned.
- Lead strategic initiatives with internal HR processes.
Internal Operations & Staff Development
- Coordinate department-wide communication and information flow among staff, coaches, and college departments.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of staff members.
- Develop and implement staff and department meetings, trainings, and retreats.
Supervision and Engagement
- Supervision, management, evaluation and oversight of sports programs and units within athletics.
- Position is expected to be highly visible and involved within our external community and campus.
- Assist with conference championship tournaments and other post-season events on campus.
- Deputy Athletic Director will serve as the direct report for sports medicine staff.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible managerial or administrative experience in intercollegiate athletics, higher education administration, or in a combination of both areas.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Commitment to the values of NCAA Division III athletics, including the holistic development of student-athletes.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in sport management, higher education administration, or a related field.
- Experience working directly with athletic directors or executive-level leadership in a collegiate setting.
- Recent previous experience as either a collegiate student-athlete or coach.
- Familiarity with NCAA compliance, budget management, and strategic planning processes.
- Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, team building, and cross-functional collaboration.
