Tyler Lawrence ’11 worked on the Dold campaign last fall and is currently serving as an intern at Congressman Dold’s district office in Northbrook, Illinois. “Given my interest in public policy and government relations,” says Lawrence, a politics major and urban studies minor, “I jumped at the opportunity and have had tremendous experiences thus far. The internship is providing me with great first hand exposure to constituent affairs and the office’s day-to-day operations.”

Lawrence has worked on a variety of interesting projects. He spent his first few weeks on the job updating the protocol for dealing with the constituent services. Since then, he has had numerous interactions with constituents, agencies of the federal government, and the staff members of the offices of other members of the House of Representatives. In addition, he has been researching new legislation and drafting letters to constituents on Congressman Dold’s positions on a variety of policy issues.  He is also helping to organize Congressman Dold’s first Job Fair. These activities are also giving Lawrence valuable insight into the interactions of the U.S. national government and the Illinois state government.

“I feel very fortunate to have spent a portion of my final two semesters with the Dold campaign, and now Representative Dold’s district office. The knowledge I have gained reinforces what I have learned in the classroom and will stay with me wherever my post-graduate path takes me.”
