Hi there :)
My name is Perculiar and I am junior currently studying at the Univerisité de Franche Compte, in the beautiful city, Besançon. My long dream of surrounding myself with the French culture became a reality thanks to the ISEP program and Ingrid H. and George L. Speros Scholar at LFC. Honestly, it’s so hard to put in words what an incredible experience it has been and what is yet to come. However, I am going to do my best. Upon my arrival in France, I was very excited about the change and the ability to achieve my childhood dreams. However, I knew it was going to be tough, specifically adjusting to the language. I thought I prepared myself enough, but it was a whole new unexpected experience. My comprehension at first was substandard because the phonetic, the intonation, the rhythm, the enchaînement, etc was different from what I was used to and learned. But I knew I had to immerse myself in the culture to overcome that barrier. I used to feel very embarrassed whenever I spoke French because I thought it didn’t sound original enough. However, when I made more friends from different Francophone countries I began to feel more comfortable. Also, UFC has a great support system as well as my amazing professors. I have honestly met incredibly talented people and made amazing friends who have positively challenged me every day to be a better person. Most weekends, I shared dinner with friends all over the world, learning how to cook Korean, Romanian, Senegalese, French meals, and many dishes. It’s truly been a blessing. I have only lived in Besancon for two months and it already feels like my home away from home. Besançon is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to. Fall season here is just impeccable as the city is surrounded by mountains and lakes that sometimes I feel like I’m in an art painting. I know I have less than two months which is sad to think about. But I am so looking forward to what the rest of my experience is going to be. This opportunity came at the right time and I am so grateful to everyone who made this possible.
