The 128-page book is “heavy on photos with 170 black-and-white images accompanied by about 30,000 words,” according to an article in the Chicago Tribune.

Among the famous subjects covered are: author F. Scott Fitzgerald; meatpacking magnates Louis Swift and J. Ogden Armour; actor Richard Widmark; horticulturist William Pullman, who had the idea for the Chicago Botanic Gardens; William Henry Smith, who helped start the Associated Press in the late 1800s; and Nathan Huggins, the first African-American professor at Lake Forest College.
