The junior from California credits her previous Lake Forest internship with Writer’s Theater in Glencoe, Ill., with getting the call-back at Second City. “I learned a lot about what it means to be a professional in the theater environment,” Kolstad said. All Lake Forest students have access to great internships all over Chicagoland. Some, like Kolstad, are living, working, and taking courses in Chicago as part of the College’s Lake Forest In The Loop program.

“The best part of the internship is how much history is at The Second City,” explains Kolstad. “It’s really inspiring to walk around in the same building that started the careers of Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Stephen Colbert—just to name a few. Also, I get to see shows and take classes at The Second City. It couldn’t get much better.”

Internships in the theater are common for Lake Forest students and give them access to much-needed skills and experiences. Theater students have interned for the Illinois Arts Council, Court Theatre, Bailiwick Theater, and award-winning Steppenwolf Theater and Goodman Theatre, among many others.
