Gaining global foothold

October 16, 2014

Jiaming Liu ’16 already has a foothold in her global career working in her second internship related to her double major.

The economics and international relations major is working this fall on a for-credit internship with Amphenol, one of the world’s largest antenna-solution providers, in its sales and new business development department, located in a suburb of Chicago.

Five afternoons a week, Liu works with the company’s sales and marketing database to track possible product and customer trends. She also will help identify where the company’s products might fit into the Internet of Things (IoT), the future of connected devices.

“We’ll have Jiaming deep dive into finding out where we want to be focusing on some of these emerging markets,” Amphenol Director of Sales and New Business Development Dan Gorsage said.

This latest experience is building on an internship Liu, a native of China, completed over the summer in the marketing department of Longjiang Bank Corporation in the Chinese Fujian Province.

“As an economics and international relations major, I’m interested in global companies,” she said.

Liu feels her two internship experiences already have provided valuable insight on her career options.

“It’s really different, what you learn in class and the way you actually use it in real life,” she said.
