A total of 175 family members joined their students on campus and shared in a long list of special activities. Topping the list of most popular Friday events were:

• Classroom visits, where faculty members opened their doors for one day to families so they could experience the learning process firsthand.
• Soup and Stories with Rapheal Mathis ’17, who brought many to tears with his poetry and inspiring story.
• Women’s hockey, where the #4 women’s hockey team in the country won 6–3 in an exciting contest. 

On Saturday, parents filled the Skybox for “Coffee with the Deans” featuring Dean of Students Rob Flot and Associate Dean of the Faculty Ann Roberts. Families learned about resources on campus for their students and heard updates from key campus departments, including public safety, health and wellness, academic affairs, and off-campus study.

After the talks, the families headed to the ice rink for the annual Winter Festival, featuring family photos, the traditional Boomer ice-carving demonstration, and a rousing women’s hockey game vs. St. Norbert that ended in an exciting overtime tie.

A highlight of the weekend was the Parents Reception with President Stephen Schutt and the Parents Council on Saturday afternoon, where they heard how Lake Forest, as an institution, embraces the importance of a relationship with the whole family.

“Community is very important to us,” Schutt said. “You are all part of the Lake Forest College community, and we hope to see our students’ parents and family members here as often as possible. Please join us whenever you can.”

Emphasizing the College’s personal relationship with every student, he added, “we mean what our mission statement says: we know our students by name, and we respect every student as an individual.”

The weekend was capped off with the Lake Forest Moving Picture Orchestra performing Professor Don Meyer’s score for a 1916 silent film and great live music by Sam Lee.
