Dr. Evelyne Accad visits with French class

April 26, 2015

Dr. Evelyne Accad, noted Lebanese author, activist and Professor Emerita of the University of Illinois, discussed her volume of short stories, Femmes du crépuscule/Women of the Twilight, translated by Prof. Cynthia Hahn, in Hahn’s FREN212: Advanced Intermediate French class on April 23, 2015.

Bushra Shams ’17 said of the visit: “When I asked Professor Accad advice on how one should get started on writing a novel, she pulled out a small purple journal from her purse. She explained to us that our daily life experiences can develop into emulated meaningful stories. She emphasized that everybody has a story to tell and the way we portray our stories on paper is where characters can come to life; this has inspired me to continue writing in my own personal journal and one day write my own novel.”

Shams is captain of the Congressional Collegiate Debate Association, Vice President of the French Club, and public relations chair of the Google Club.

Accad also played original songs regarding women’s issues in the Middle East.
