The first-time event, “Coffee with a Diplomat,” drew 22 students who are interested in exploring a career in government and networking with Neus, a diplomat in residence for the Midwest. 

Neus discussed entry-level opportunities for upcoming graduates, summer internships in Washington, DC and abroad, tips for foreign service officer positions, resume-writing, and more. 

“Mr. Neus turns to Lake Forest College because of the caliber of our students and our diversity,” Associate Director of the Career Advancement Center Smret Smith said. “He is always excited to share his expertise and opportunities with Lake Forest College students.”

Bushra Shams ’17, an American politics and economics double major and French minor pursuing law school, was among the students who took advantage of the opportunity to meet with Neus.

“Learning about possible government-related careers that I could apply my majors to was very beneficial,” she said.”Meeting a diplomat in residence was a surreal experience, especially because he outlined how one can pursue his career path of a Consular officer after graduating from Lake Forest College.”

The event was co-sponsored by the Career Advancement Center and the International Relations Program.
