Barbara Newman, Professor of English, classics, and history at Northwestern University, will explore the medieval theology behind the climactic conclusion of Dante’s Divine Comedy.
Professor Newman specializes in biblical, medieval, and gender studies. Her recent publications include her 2021 book The Permeable Self: Five Medieval Relationships and her 2021 translation of Richard Methley's collected works. She holds the John Evans Chair of Latin Language and Literature and is a former president of the Medieval Academy of America.
