I've thought about becoming a nurse in the emergency room. That's always appealed to me. But during my internship, I've seen a variety of places such as case management and the operating room, the PACU, which is the post-anesthesia care unit, and the UCC, the Universal Care Center, which is where patients go before surgery. So this has really opened up a lot of doors for me about what I may be interested in in the future.

Summer internship: A first glimpse into the nursing field
A partnership between Lake Forest College and Lake Forest Hospital gives students who are interested in nursing careers an opportunity to spend a day in a nurse’s shoes. Through this summer internship, students shadow professionals, gaining a real-time, in-person glimpse into healthcare fields. The immersive experience develops the students’ understanding of the complexity of healthcare environments while also showcasing the diversity in careers available for nurses.

Our unique Career Pathways preparation program takes students through four stages of personal exploration and career development we call the Career Milestones. We help students gain the skills and experiences they need to be successful and to build a strong network within their Pathway, a network that will provide them with industry insight and help them land meaningful jobs. Nursing Pathways Program participants most often find a home in the Science and Health Care Career Pathway, but they can also find a home in any Career Pathway.
