How did you explore your interests and decide on a major?
When I got to college I had no idea what I wanted to major in. I started taking classes that I thought were interesting and found myself as an art history major. Through great classes and amazing professors, you will be sure to find a major that you love!
Describe a moment or experience you had in college that helped define your career path.
One of my classes sophomore year was a museum practicum. Our class completely designed, installed, and marketed an exhibit for Sonnenschein gallery. This class showed me all the aspects that make a show come together. It was such an exciting process that I knew that I would want to do and be a part of again.
What steps did you take in college to prepare for your career?
Internships, internships, internships, and lots of advice from my career advisor Victoria Beagle. I know it’s repetitive to hear, but internships are so crucial for learning what kind of work you want to do in the future. By exploring different avenues of work, you are able to see what you do and don’t like.
What role did your internship or research experience play in shaping your career path?
Each internship I had was a great learning tool, because I was able to kind of try out a career for a little bit. I learned so much about careers in the arts, but also about myself and what kind of environment I wanted to work in.
What would you recommend Lake Forest College students considering a career in your field do to prepare?
Explore your options! Try things that you aren’t sure about, you might be surprised how much you love it or how much you hate it. But it doesn’t hurt to try, each time you do you’ll be able to learn more about yourself and your career path!
How did the Career Advancement Center and the Forester community give you an edge on taking your first steps after graduation?
Everyone, especially the Career Advancement Center, was extremely supportive and encouraging with life after college! They were always willing and ready to help for any resume, cover letter, or general questions. It was a great feeling knowing that I always had someone to answer a question about formatting or give me career advice.
What have you found the most rewarding in your career and life after graduation?
I feel so fortunate that I was able to find a job that I really love!
