Volunteer at the Forester Day of Service

January 22, 2014

This year’s Forester Day of Service on Saturday, March 1 is continuing our service in the community of North Chicago. Register to participate today!

For several years, Lake Forest College has been partnering with North Chicago Community Partners to send student volunteers to the after-school programs at Forrestal, South and AJ Katzemaier Elementary Schools. Lake Forest College students assist the elementary school students with homework and provide enrichment activities.

This year, the Forester Day of Service will continue that tradition by sending volunteers to the five North Chicago elementary schools to facilitate Health and Wellness Open Houses.

The purpose of the Health and Wellness Open House is to reinforce healthy eating, physical fitness and proper hygiene through hands-on activities. Children and adults from North Chicago will rotate through various stations focused on these topics. The event will also include a trip to the “grocery store”- an in school store stocked with healthy food items provided by the Northern Illinois Food Bank. As a volunteer you’ll either work as an activity coordinator by leading an activity station, or you’ll work as a grocery store volunteer helping manage the grocery store operations and assisting shoppers.
