Student ‘poetic mind’ essay published

The Midwest Journal of Undergraduate Research has accepted an essay submitted by Alexandra Kulik ’15.
“Through the encouragement of Professor Mengelkoch, I submitted my essay, ‘The Poetic Mind: Blake, Wordsworth, and Coleridge on the Imagination,’” said Kulik, a transfer student from College of Lake County. “As a philosophy major, I was determined to figure out how the Romantic period contributed to theory of mind and to certain perennial problems dealing with supposed dualisms,” including mind-body, rationality-spirituality, and the one and the many.
In her essay, Kulik explores how the poetic mind, according to the Romantic thinkers, “is fundamentally distant in its capacity to perceive the truth of reality,” she said.
