Professor of Sociology and Anthropology and Gorter Chair of Islamic World Studies Ahmad Sadri recently served as an expert panelist for a discussion aired on C-SPAN about preventing a nuclear-armed Iran.
Three students, Heather Hanson, Geoff Douglas and Peter Jansen, accompanied Sadri to Washington, D.C. for the November 26 event titled “Iran 2013: Making Diplomacy Work,” which was sponsored by the Arms Control Association and National Iranian American Council.
“The coming year will present critical opportunities to resolve the decade-long Iranian nuclear standoff,” the event description states. “With sanctions escalating, Iranian nuclear capabilities increasing, a soft war simmering, and the threat of a full blown military conflict on the horizon, it has never been more vital that the United States and Iran find a diplomatic off-ramp to prevent disaster.”
Panelists discussed questions such as, how do the parties finally make diplomacy work? What does an agreement look like? What is the best path the parties must take to get there?
Other speakers included former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, former head of the United Nations Special Commission on Iraq Rolf Ekéus, and Dr. James Walsh, Research Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Security Studies Program.
