Notes from Abroad: Shelby in London/Florence

March 29, 2016

Notes from Abroad is a new feature on the Off-Campus Programs website, in which we highlight small snippets of a student’s experience.  This week’s feature is from Shelby Homiston ’17, a Theater major and a minor in Entrepreneurship currently studying abroad in London and Florence.

I am so thankful for the Lake Forest College Smith Scholarship for helping to make my time abroad possible. It seems as though I end each day saying “I can’t believe I got to do that today” or “I can’t believe I actually got to see that in person”. From being able to hear Big Ben ring out to seeing Westminster Abbey, where William and Kate got married, to the Houses of Parliament where policy change is made each day. However, some of my best experiences have come from walking around and stumbling upon places or events that are better kept secrets, not found in guidebooks. Living in London feels like living in a part of history and I am so lucky to be able to transition from tourist to London local. I can only imagine what Florence has in store for the second half of the semester and I am eager to explore yet another new city and make some new experiences.
