Lake Forest College to host Chicago Brain Bee on February 9

Lake Forest College is hosting the Chicago Brain Bee, a regional neuroscience competition for high school student, for the third time on Saturday, February 9. The winner will advance to the U.S. National Brain Bee competition, and, possibly, the International Brain Bee.
A total of 64 students from 18 area high schools are registered to participate in the day-long program, which begins with breakfast at 9 a.m. and concludes with the Final Bee in Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel at 3 p.m. The day will feature members of Lake Forest College faculty and students presenting research talks, poster sessions, and tours of the new Lillard Science Center.
The preliminary bee examination for all participants will take place at 10 a.m. in McCormick Auditorium. All are invited to attend the final round of competition taking place at 3 p.m. in the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel.
“This is a really wonderful opportunity for teachers, parents, and students of the participating schools to experience our college community, especially by engaging with our science students and faculty in our new facilities,” said Disque D. and Carol Gram Deane Professor of Biological Sciences Shubhik Deburman. “The program is anchored by the hard work of more than 30 student members of the Lake Forest Chapter of Nu Rho Psi. They have been planning this event for months and will be present in full force on Saturday to ensure the program is successful on all fronts.”
The winners of the local bee will be invited to participate in the U.S National Brain Bee competition. The winner from the national competition will compete further in the International Brain Bee, which is the world-wide neuroscience competition for high school students.
