Helping others

The Lake Forest College women’s softball and hockey teams give back to a young cancer victim and her sister with friendship and support.
The Forester softball team adopted Mia Gurevitz in 2013 when she was just 3-years-old through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, which aims to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers by pairing them with local high school and college sports teams.
The Gurevitz family quickly became the team’s biggest fans, frequently attending practices and games. Mia soon realized she had a slew of Forester friends. Soon after, the women’s hockey team adopted Mia’s older sister, Rachel, and the College’s outreach grew.
The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation highlighted the teams’ efforts in a recent article. Click here to read the story.
