Why did you choose philosophy as your major at Lake Forest College?

“I had taken a few classes in my junior and senior years of high school that went into a few of the basic philosophers, and I found them very interesting. I looked into it (majoring in philosophy), because at first I was worried about what I would be able to do with the major. When I realized that it taught practical skills for almost any career path, and how well it prepared students for all the major graduate school tests, I wasn’t worried anymore. In addition to that, once I started taking classes at Lake Forest College, I had such great experiences with all the professors. Furthermore, I was also told by a friend who was a lawyer that the only group he was jealous of in law school were the people who had majored in philosophy because they were so prepared.”

How has studying philosophy helped you get to where you are now?

“Standardized tests were never my strong suit, but after taking a lot of philosophy courses at Lake Forest College, I was much better prepared to tackle my LSAT than many of my peers. This is because it made me become a stronger thinker and helped me learn how to approach what I read. Needless to say, it made me a better reader, too, as these courses exposed me to some of the hardest texts to read and comprehend.”

What your aspirations are for the future?

“I hope to be an estate planning attorney or criminal defense.”
