Acclaimed artists from Québec visited Lake Forest College

Lake Forest College hosted four acclaimed artists from Québec the week of October 13. The week’s highlight was a well-attended dramatic performance in French of the text, Larmes, followed by discussion in English and French.

Lake Forest College hosted four acclaimed artists from Québec the week of October 13. Mélanie Rivet, poet/translator/journalist and Sue Mills, photographer-illustrator of the poetic text in French, Larmes: Cycle d’une femme-racine (Gatineau, Québec: Neige-Galerie, 2014) were joined by the work’s artistic director and sequential artist Christian Quesnel, and choreographer-dancer Geneviève Duong, for discussions of this text, the writing, artistic and publishing processes, the role of women, Quebec culture and cultural globalization, in French, English, WGS, Art and FIYS courses., as well as at French Table. Duong and Rivet also gave a dramatic movement and text workshop to the campus community and to an Acting class. The week’s highlight was a well-attended dramatic performance in French of the text, Larmes given by Duong, Mills and Rivet, followed by discussion in English and French.

The visit was organized by Dr. Cynthia Hahn, Professor of French, and sponsored by the Mojekwu Fund for Intercultural Understanding, the Délégation du Québec à Chicago, French Club, First-Year Studies and Departments of English, Modern Languages & Literatures, Theater.
