Twitter takeover

The CAC set up a Twitter Takeover so students can view different jobs and connect with potential employers.
February 09, 2015

Alumni and employers are tweeting their #DayintheLife activity on the @LFCareers Twitter account so students can see what it’s like to do their job.

The Career Advancement Center (CAC) signed up guest tweeters from more than a dozen organizations for its first Twitter Takeover, scheduled during February’s Career Month and extended—due to high interest—through the beginning of March.

“This is a new initiative to give students deeper insight into those career paths and organizations and to bring our students, alumni, and employers together on a virtual online platform,” CAC Associate Director Alina Guarise said.

Guest tweeter Deepa Singh of City Year Chicago shared her day working for the non-profit organization that partners with at-risk schools to help ensure that students graduate high school. Followers virtually watched as Singh got the day’s game plan during a team meeting at 7:32 a.m. and cheered along later that morning when she helped a high schooler understand graphing slopes in Algebra I.

Lake Forest students respond to #DayintheLife by liking tweets and following the organizations’ and live tweeters’ accounts. “Many of the guest tweeters are seeking to hire Lake Forest College students,” Guarise said, “which also makes this an important networking opportunity. We’re definitely on the leading edge here—not every school is doing this.” The College’s Twitter Takeover was mentioned by @breakingchinews, which curates the best media feeds in Chicago.

The CAC’s guest tweeter list also includes: Dr. Kelly Scott Mercier ’01, a research chemist at RTI International; Mona Eskridge ’86, president of Eskridge & Associates, Inc.; Sara Bemer, development coordinator at The Arts of Life; Heather Everst Herriges ’08, social media manager at Weber Grills; and Michael Saad ’84, senior manager at Abbvie.
