Student-produced video helps to promote art event in Tokyo

Students of Davis Schneiderman, associate professor of English, recently collaborated to produce a short video that will be used to help publicize a bimonthly avant-garde art event in Tokyo.
The project is part of Ioana Munteanu’s ’13 Advanced Video Production independent study class. She will have completed three large-scale videos by the end of the semester, including two book trailers. In addition to meeting regularly with Schneiderman, her adviser, she blogs about her progress.
Schneiderman also recruited the help of students from his class Creative Unwriting and Remix Workshop, a new course he says is based on principles of combining. The group brainstormed with Munteanu and served as actors and actresses for the film.
The Tokyo art performance, called Paint Your Teeth, is organized by Schneiderman’s friend David Hoenigman. Hoenigman wrote the book Burn Your Belongings, which students in Schneiderman’s workshop will be reading presently.
Munteanu’s video will be a small part of a longer video. She and the class developed ideas for their segment together and decided upon a fancy dinner party scene in Glen Rowan House with two hosts, both dressed in full body suits, serving cut-up books for the meal. The unusual plot will blend well with the typically “weird” publicity videos created for Paint Your Teeth.
