State of journalism
Journalists Darryl McGrath and Michael Bologna of Bloomberg BNA talked shop with the Stentor staff.
Two professional journalists visited campus to meet with the Stentor staff and honor Jim McGrath ’79, a lifelong newspaperman who got his start on the College’s student newspaper.
Darryl McGrath, a former professor at University at Albany, SUNY, and Michael Bologna, a staff correspondent for Bloomberg BNA in Chicago, visited with staff members Sophia Goss ’17, Josh Kim ’17, Dominick Scafidi ’17, and Bernie Reyes ’18.
The visitors toured the Stentor office and discussed with students the changing state of journalism. Stentor is one of several student publications available on campus.
Darryl said Lake Forest always held a special place in Jim’s heart. She donated to the Stentor a painting she commissioned for her husband.

The painting hangs in the newsroom, alongside a memorial plaque honoring her husband’s legacy with the College. After Jim’s death in 2013, Bologna organized a monetary gift in Jim’s memory to the College.
At the time of his death, Jim was chief editorial writer for the Albany Times Union in New York. Darryl is publishing a book of her husband’s opinion pieces.
