Life After Lake Forest – Preparing for the future

November 06, 2011

It is never too early for your student to start preparing for life after Lake Forest and the Career Advancement Center staff is here to help.

We offer dynamic career programming for students in all stages of career development to help them get the competitive edge they need. This includes:

  • Helping students choose majors and explore different careers through one-on-one counseling, assessments, and group sessions.
  • Coaching students on the job search process - everything from critiquing resumes and cover letters to holding mock interviews.
  • Connecting students to online job and internship postings via the Online Career Center and facilitating networking with Lake Forest alumni through our Foresters Helping Foresters programs.

Speed Networking 2011 has kicked us off to a great start this year, with over 120 students and more than 70 professionals participating in short scheduled meetings in a format modeled after speed dating. In addition, we have launched a series of workshops with the Gates Center for Leadership and Personal Growth, titled “Develop your Brand, Discover your Trademark”, to help students explore their interests, skills, and accomplishments and articulate them to others. You can play an important role as your student plans for their future by:

  • Encouraging your student to take advantage of the services and programs offered by the Career Advancement Center.
  • Helping your student understand their interests by asking questions such as “What aspects of your classes interest you the most?” and “What extra-curricular activities are you getting involved with or are you interested in pursuing?”

The staff at the Career Advancement Center is here to answer any of your questions as your student prepares for their future by thinking about life after Lake Forest.
