From the desk of Dean Flot: Blending academics and life outside the classroom is critically important
One of our newest initiatives to accomplish this is through our Living Learning Community (LLC).
A LLC is a collaboration between an academic department and the College’s residential program. This year Residence Life is collaborating with the College’s Modern Languages and Literature department.
The LLC will involve faculty from Modern Languages and Literature routinely going into a specific residence hall on evenings and weekends. The faculty will facilitate programs in the residence hall that might include: conversations with students in languages such as Spanish, Chinese, or Arabic; foreign movie night; cooking food from cultures from around the world; guest speakers, and more!
Students living in the residence hall have specifically selected to be members of the LLC, and thus, in this case, all the students share a particular interest in Modern Languages and Literature.
However, students don’t need to be a resident of the building to participate, and they don’t need to be a Modern Languages major; any student at Lake Forest College can join the regularly scheduled programs. If your student might be interested, encourage them to ask their Resident Assistant (RA) or Resident Director (RD) for details.
