Drum roll, please
The artist selected for the annual spring concert is…Uncle Kracker! e.Team released the announcement on Thursday morning that the highly-acclaimed American rock musician, who has collaborated with an array of artists from Kid Rock to Kenny Chesney, will headline the event.
New this year, the April 26 concert scheduled for 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. will take place off campus at Viper Alley in Lincolnshire. Student attendees will be required to take College-provided transportation to and from the site.
Pat Doggett, assistant director of the Gates Center, said the venue provides a more concert-like atmosphere than the transformed gym in the Sports and Recreation Center, where the spring concerts traditionally are held. Additionally, it has an increased capacity; as many as 500 or 600 students typically attend the spring concert.
e.Team President Kayla Sarkis ’14 said the process of selecting an artist, negotiating with that artist, and so on is a matter of six to eight months of work. Organizers chose Uncle Kracker because they believe he meets the wide range of musical tastes among students.
“He’s someone different from what we’ve had in past years,” Sarkis said, adding that she encourages students to “definitely keep your mind open to going off campus and having a good time.”
Uncle Kracker has crossed over four genres in his career — hip-hop, rock, Motown, and country — and his silver, gold, platinum, and double platinum records serve as proof that he does them all very well.
His popular singles include “Smile,” “Follow Me,” “Good To Be Me,” “My Hometown,” “Nobody’s Sad On a Saturday Night” in addition to his popular remake of the 1973 classic, “Drift Away” and a collaborative effort with Kenny Chesney on the song “When the Sun Goes Down.”
A to-be-determined DJ will open and close the event, which is free and open only to Lake Forest College students.
The Spring Concert is only open to the campus community with Lake Forest College I.D.s.
