Career planning starts early at Lake Forest
First-year and sophomore students attend the first of several events in February aimed at helping them “find their passion” and start creating an academic and career plan.
Approximately two dozen students turned up in the Mohr Student Center on February 1 for “Discover Your Academic and Career Interests,” a talk led by Genevra Gallo-Bayiates, assistant director of the Career Advancement Center.
At the event, participants learned how to identify core interests and link them to career types and areas of study.
“Our goal was to harness their excitement about the things they naturally gravitate towards,” explained Genevra Gallo-Bayiates. “Once a student can articulate what he or she likes to learn about, the next step is to link it to a major and begin to take action.”
A February 6 event titled “Choosing a Major, Finding an Advisor, and Creating a Plan” will help students do just that.
Billed as a “casual networking session,” this event will connect students to faculty and student leaders who can offer academic advice, and to staff who can answer questions about internships and off-campus study options.
“Choosing a Major, Finding an Advisor, and Creating a Plan” will be February 6 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. at Mohr Student Center.
