Career Month guides students to their future

February is Career Month at Lake Forest College, and organizers from the Career Advancement Center have designed programs for students of all stages in their education, from those who are trying to determine a major to those seeking internship and employment opportunities.
Students in the exploratory phase of their education and career planning are encouraged to attend the first two events, “Discover Your Academic and Career Interests” and “MAP Your Future: Choose a Major, Find an Advisor, and Create a Plan,” which will help them to narrow their interests and familiarize themselves with the many on-campus resources at their disposal.
This will be the second year of “MAP Your Future,” and the new and improved format of the program will allow students to have more intimate one-on-one conversations with knowledgeable faculty, staff, and student leaders on hand to answer their questions, said Genevra Gallo-Bayiates, assistant director of the CAC.
Both students who have declared majors and those who have not will benefit from the program, which includes the opportunity to find an advisor and discuss how to be more strategic in planning their education. For example, when might an internship or off-campus study experience best fit into their schedule?
Gallo-Bayiates said the goal is to help students “to feel connected, to feel engaged, and to find opportunities at Lake Forest College to help them find their fit.”
Internship Week is from Monday, February 18 to Friday, February 22 and offers students a potpourri of internship-related material. Informational sessions, panels, and a workshop all are on the calendar.
Azra Salihovic, outreach and employer relations coordinator in the CAC, referred to the spring recruitment event on Wednesday, February 20 as the highlight of the week. There, students will have the opportunity to meet with employers and apply for internships and full-time positions.
