Access Summer brings record number of students to campus
Last year, the College launched a re-energized summer program—Access Summer—that kept the campus humming from May through July.
By doubling the number of undergraduate courses and expanding from two to three terms,
the number of enrolled students doubled.
The wide variety of programs, including studying flora of the Great Lakes region, conducting archaeological field work, and Writing By the Lake seminars for adults, received such a strong response, further expansions were made to draw even more college students, community members, and teens to campus this summer.
“We’ve moved from good to great in the summer. With everything from the music of Disney to the chemistry of art to terrorism and counterterrorism, our courses take summer school to the next level,” said Davis Schneiderman, associate dean of the faculty and director of the Center for Chicago Programs.
The revamped summer program is part of the College’s current five-year plan, which calls for significant expansion of summer academic and recreational programs that support the educational mission and generate auxiliary revenue.
