In the Winter 2015 issue of Context, the journal of the American Sociological Association, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Anthropology Todd Beer used Ferguson as an example of “teaching sociology as it happens.”
“Tying course concepts to current events helps students understand explicitly how sociology is relevant to the present day and to their own lives,” writes Beer, who also used this concept during fall semester when he traveled to New York with three students to cover the People’s Climate March in September.
