Q. How do I add a video I found on the web to Moodle?
A. Add as a URL resource directly in Moodle. It’s not necessary to use Panopto to place a link to a video onto your course page.

 

Q. How do I put a video in Panopto directly on my Moodle course page, without displaying Panopto?
A. Every movie in Panopto has a unique URL. In Panopto, copy the movie’s link and add as a URL resource in Moodle.

Q. How do I access recordings via Moodle?
A. In your course, turn editing on, and add the Panopto block. To allow student uploads, add the Panopto activity. To add links to Panopto videos directly on your course page, display the video in Panopto and copy the URL. On your Moodle course page, turn editing on, and select URL from the Add an Activity Resource list, and choose Add. Paste the URL for the Panopto video into the External URL box.

 

Q. A student says they uploaded a video, but I cannot find it via the course Moodle site. How do I troubleshoot?
A. All videos are in Panopto. Have the student log into Panopto. Choose Browse, and then My Folders. These are the only folders they are allowed to upload videos into.

Q. Who can see what is uploaded to Panopto?
A. Each video can have a unique set of viewing permissions. Instructors can make videos available for course viewing. Student assignments are viewable only by that student and the instructor. Everyone gets a My Folder. Videos you upload there are private to you. You may share your videos with others.

 

Q. A student accidentally recorded a video for another student under their login. How do I change the access to the Panopto file to the student who actually did the presentation?
A. Instructors have Creator access to assignmentfolders. With this type of access, they canrename, edit, and delete student assignments.

 

Q. One student recorded a group presentation that I would like all members of the group to review. How do I set the recording to be available to a subset of students?
A. To make a video available to the class, copy or move it into the class folder. Use the Share button to allow access to a select group of students.

 

Q. How do I edit student submitted videos?
A. For basic editing, use the online editing tools in Panopto.

A. Use a browser (not the app) to log onto Panotpto. Choose Settings under the video. Under the title, choose Edit.

 

Q. I think I just deleted student videos. Can they be recovered?
A. Panopto will retain deleted videos for 90 days. Contact the ITS Help Desk to have the video restored.

 

Q. I want to set my phone to record my whole class. How much phone space do I need? How much battery life do I need? How much time can I anticipate the upload to take?
A. The storage required is 4mb/minute (240mb/hour). To record an entire class, plug your device in while you record. An entire class session may take 10-20 minutes to completely upload. If you close the app, the video will continue to upload in the background. Please contact the ITS Help Desk if you are unable to completely upload videos from your mobile device.

 

Q. Can I transfer Panopto files from my phone to my computer and have my computer be uploading while I’m doing other things? What is the best way to do this?
A. iPhone users can copy the video to their computer using iTunes. Android users can copy the video from storage by mounting the storage as a drive. Contact the Help Desk for assistance.

 

Q. Can a student continue to edit a Panopto file after they’ve uploaded it?
A. Students can continue to edit their videos in the assignments folder. In Settings, instructors can close the assignment folder. This will prevent students from accessing and adding content to the assignment folder. The instructor will still have access.

 

Q. I want to create a video lecture for my class using Panopto. What is the best way to put it on Moodle?
A. Upload your lecture video to your course folder. Enrolled students can view the video but not delete it.

 

Q. I want to create a video lecture to use for multiple classes. What is the best way to save it in Panopto so I can put it on multiple Moodle pages?
A. Upload your lecture video to your My Folder. Then, copy the video into course folders as needed.

Q. I told Panopto it cannot access my phone’s camera or microphone when I first set it up. How do I fix this?
A. Open the Settings app and go to Privacy > Camera or Privacy > Microphone.

A. Be sure your phone is fully charged before recording. You may also record with your phone plugged in.

A. Upload speed depends on the speed of the network you’re connected to. It may take a few seconds to several minutes. It is important to remember to connect to Wi-Fi when uploading from a mobile device. If you can’t completely upload your video, contact the ITS Help Desk for assistance.

A. On a PC or Mac, log into Panopto and play the movie. Use the download button in the upper right, above the video. The video will save to the computer. Log out of Panopto. Your classmate can then log into Panopto and upload it.

A. Using a PC or Mac (not a phone), log onto Panopto. Under the video, choose Settings. Under the name, select Edit, and make your changes.

 

Q. I forgot to stop recording, and now I have a 2-hour file that is going to take forever to upload. Can I edit before I upload?
A. Contact the ITS Help Desk for assistance with transferring your long video and editing it.

 

Q. I deleted the Panopto video I took before I uploaded. What can I do?
A. If it has been recorded, the ITS Help Desk may able to recover it from iTunes.

 

Q. I accidentally edited a part out of my Panopto video that I need. How do I get it back?
A. In the Panopto editor, any part you’ve deleted can be restored. Drag the thick bars around the grey area to remove your edits.

 

Q. Panopto will not record my PowerPoint/Google Slides/Keynote. What should I do?
A. Panopto on mobile devices will only upload video, not slides. To upload slides, use a PC or Mac. In Panopto for Mac or PC, make sure that Record Powerpoint is checked. If your slides won’t upload, you may capture your screen while presenting.

 

Q. My deadline is coming up! How long will it take to upload my presentation from off-campus? How about from on-campus?
A. Upload times are the same on and off campus. Short presentations typically take a few seconds to a few minutes to upload. Again, it is recommended that you connect to a Wi-Fi network when uploading from a mobile device.

 

Q. I made my presentation in Panopto but forgot to upload it. How do I prove to my professor that I got it done on time?
A. Use iTunes or mount your phone as a drive on your computer. Contact the ITS Help Desk for assistance.

 

Q. I uploaded the wrong version of my Panopto video. How do I replace it with the correct version?
A. Using your browser (not the app), log into Panopto, find your video, and use the Delete beneath it. Re-upload the correct video using the browser or the app.

 

Q. I did a great Panopto video I want to send to my friends. How can I do this?
A. Upload the video to your My Folder. Go to the video and select Share. Under Who Has Access, change the menu to Specific People, or anyone with the link. Copy the link and send it to your friends.
