Join us to hear Dr. Mesmin Destin Associate Professor of Psychology of Northwestern University discuss approaches to improve student outcomes and reduce socioeconomic disparities in education.
Dr. Mesmin Destin Associate Professor of Psychology at Northwestern will joins us virtually to discuss "Identity-based approaches to improve student outcomes and reduce socioeconomic disparities in education." Dr. Destin investigates how social environments shape people's identities and the consequences for motivation, behaviors, and trajectories in life. His research focuses on understanding the ways that socioeconomic resources influence young people's academic outcomes. Using social psychological methods, he conducts laboratory and field experiments to examine the types of contexts, experiences, interactions, and information that support motivation and well-being for students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. This event is a part of the CAP (Current Advances in Psychology) Colloquia series and is sponsored by Psi Chi, The Psychology Department and The Center for Chicago Programs.
